About the City of Maud
The town of Maud was established in the late 1800's on the border of Indian Territory(Seminole County) and Oklahoma Territory(Pottawatomie County). A Post Office was established on April 16, 1896. It was incorporated on July 21st, 1905 and chartered as a City in 1927.
Today, the City straddles the Pottawatomie/Seminole County Line, with the east 1/3 being in Seminole County and the west 2/3 being in Pottawatomie County.
The town started as a trading post and was named for Maud Sterns, sister-in-law of the owners of the general store. in 1903, the Railroad depot was built and the town became a freight stop on the MK&T (Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Railway) train line. The City's first newspaper, the Maud Monitor, was published in February, 1904. During the oil boom of the 1920's, the population exceeded 10,000 people, and the town was incorporated as the City of Maud in 1927.
